Cardiothoracic Surgery (MD1046) ECTS
Students after successfully attending the course will be able to, understand in depth the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory system, complete the diagnostic workup of a patient with severe coronary artery disease, heart valve disease or lung cancer referred for surgical management, perform a proper clinical examination of a cardiothoracic patient during the pre- and postoperative period, understand the indications for surgical management of coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and lung cancer, understand the basic principles of extracorporeal circulation, observe the most common major cardiothoracic procedures, such as coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair or replacement, ascending aorta replacement, lung resections, mediastinal surgery etc., gain experience in patients’ monitoring at the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit.
