Metabolic fuels and dietary components, the fed or absorptive state, fasting, chemical bonds, structure of major compounds, entropy and laws of thermodynamics, protein structure (primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary), protein function, enzymes (basic principles and kinetics, catalysis strategies, regulation of enzyme activity), structure of nucleic acids, DNA synthesis, mutagenesis and DNA repair, DNA transcription, RNA modifications, translation, regulation of gene expression, use of recombinant DNA techniques in medicine.
