Located within the Aristotle University campus, the AHEPA University Hospital represents one of the largest hospitals in Greece covering almost the entire range of specialties in Medicine and Psychiatry. AHEPA Hospital supports patients not only from Thessaloniki but from the whole Macedonia and Thrace region due to its specialization in Tertiary Care health services. The Hospital also houses the “Adolescent Unit”, a decentralized model multi-functional structure that provides psychiatric services and psychosocial care services to adolescents (13 to 19 years old) of the city of Thessaloniki and the wider Northern Greece.

Wherever you finally choose to study medicine, it is all irrevocably based on pioneering Greek physicians and practices, who freed medicine from prejudice and superstition and ushered in the framework for modern medicine. The sanctuaries of Asclepius were the first healing places, Aristotle and his school established research methods and Galen of Pergamon was the physician who collected and systematised all the ancient medical knowledge which spread throughout the world in numerous languages. The list of Greek medical entrepreneurialism goes on and on, right up, 2,500 years later, to the present day.

POSTGRADUATE STUDIES
Postgraduate studies today play a decisive role in the achievement of educational, cultural, social and economic goals of many universities. Aiming at broadening and underpinning the knowledge offered to university graduates in specific disciplines of the arts and sciences, the Postgraduate Studies Programmes have been structured and are offered in most of the Faculties/Schools of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, that award either a Postgraduate Diploma (Master’s Degree) or a Doctorate Diploma (PhD). Currently, there are many Postgraduate Study Programmes operating in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, including a number of Inter-departmental and Inter-institutional ones, and also some in collaboration with other universities in Greece and abroad. There is an appropriate body for recognition of a foreign University degree and that is the Inter-University Center for Recognition of Foreign Academic Titles.

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (which consists of 12 Faculties, 42 Schools and 289 Laboratories) conducts research projects, participates in European research programmes and projects, cooperates with international institutions and organizations, and attracts outstanding researchers from within Greece and abroad. The Aristotle University supports research projects in a wide variety of disciplines related to the environment (natural and built), computing, new technologies and nanotechnology, telecommunications, industrial technologies, transport, biotechnology, biomedicine and health, agriculture, forestry and fishery, education and language, history and archaeology, social studies, and economics.

ARISTOTLE UNIVERSITY IS THE LARGEST
ACADEMIC INSTITUTION IN SE EUROPE
The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) was founded in 1925 and was named after the famous ancient philosopher Aristotle. It is one of the largest Universities of Greece, covering an area of about 34 hectares and located in the city centre. It consists of 41 Faculties and Schools offering all kinds of studies, has about 74.000 registered students (65.000 undergraduate and 9.000 postgraduate, 4.000 of which at Doctoral level), more than 2.500 permanent teaching staff and approximately 800 permanent administrative staff.
AUTh houses 16 Museums, Archives and Collections, has three choirs, an orchestra, an opera, and a gym. It also has a Career Services Office and a summer camp in Halkidiki, a piny area next to the sea.
It takes part in the Erasmus exchange programme, it is a member of 11 student unions, and is certified as fully compliant by the Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency Board.
