Neurology I (MD1050) ECTS

DESCRIPTION

The course provides an integrated knowledge of the nervous system in physiological and pathological conditions. This knowledge derives from the study of anatomy and physiology of the nervous system as well as from the understanding of the pathophysilogical mechanisms of disease and their diagnosis and treatment. Lectures in the amphitheater include: introduction to Neurosciences (neuroanatomy, neurochemistry, neu-rophysiology), localization in central and peripheral nervous system, introduction to diagnostic tools (electrophysiology, neuroimaging, CSF analysis)and diseases of the nervous system (stroke, epilepsy, degenerative diseases, demyelinating disorders, infections, tumors, diseases of muscles and nerves and neurological manifestations in systemic diseases).Clinical courses in the teaching room(theory) and practical training in the clinical wards (practice)include : history taking, understanding and performing a neurological examination and have a clinical to several neurological diseases.

EDUCATORS

Neurosurgery (MD1051) ECTS

DESCRIPTION

The aim of the lesson is to provide students the ability to acquire the basic principles of modern neurosurgery. Students are trained in the clinical presentation of the neurosurgical disorders, the interconnection between theoretical principles and practical application of them, as well as the neurosurgical treatment modalities. In addition, modern surgical techniques are presented. The results and considerations of therapeutic treatment are reported in the basic chapters of neurosurgery, which are vascular diseases of the central nervous system, craniocerebral injuries, spinal injuries, degenerative spine disorders, tumors of the central nervous system, hydrocephalus, diseases of the peripheral nerves, functional neurosurgery, pediatric neurosurgery.

EDUCATORS

Medical Law and Ethics (MD1052) ECTS

DESCRIPTION

The students should be capable of developing critical thinking informed by ethical analysis, and apply that thinking to comment on and critique the law’s role in regulating medicine, healthcare services, and research. They should be capable of identifying areas of law relevant to contemporary issues in the broad healthcare setting and build on the understanding of key values in medical law and ethics, such as autonomy, solidarity, justice, reciprocity, vulnerability, informed consent, confidentiality, human rights, etc. The students should be able to appreciate the international dimensions of medicine and its regulation, including the growing importance of European regulation and international agreements. In addition, the students should be able to appreciate the limits of law in discerning appropriate social responses to new medical and technical advances.

EDUCATORS

Biopathology (MD1074) ECTS

DESCRIPTION

The objectives of the course are the preliminary contact of the student with the wide range of applied laboratory medicine, as practiced in our country within the limits of the medical specialty of Medical Biopathology. The aim is to familiarize and understand the potential of laboratory approach to diagnosis and monitoring, at least of the main clinical situations, as well as the important contribution of the medical laboratory to the identification and documentation of the disease and the therapeutic intervention. Also, to show the need for rational use and good practice, as well as for continuous evaluation of laboratory results and applied procedures.
